What is skin camouflage & how can it help?
We explain what skin camouflage is, who it is suitable for and what happens in a Skin Camouflage Service appointment.
Find out about the products Changing Faces practitioners use as part of the Skin Camouflage Service and how to check if they’re available on prescription.
Skin camouflage products are creams and powders that can be used to reduce the appearance of a visible difference, such as a scar, mark or skin condition. They are different to high-street makeup brands because they are specifically formulated to last longer and provide heavier coverage.
These products are usually available on prescription in the UK. However, this can vary depending on the policy of your local NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) if you live in England or your local NHS Health Board if you live in Scotland.
On this page, we share more information about the products that we use during our Skin Camouflage Service appointments and explain how prescriptions for these products work.
Our skin camouflage practitioners use a range of camouflage creams and powders from Dermacolor, Veil, Covermark and Keromask. Their kits contain approximately 150 shades ensuring we can achieve a good match for all skin tones.
These products are specifically formulated to provide fuller and longer-lasting coverage than most traditional high-street makeup brands. You can use them on your face or body and are also water-resistant and suitable for sensitive skin.
See our dedicated page for more information on what skin camouflage is and whether you might benefit from using it.
If you have had an appointment and would like a reminder on how to apply the products, please see our skin camouflage video guides. These are also helpful if you are waiting for an appointment as they contain tips on getting the best coverage possible with high-street makeup brands. The guides explain:

Request an appointmentSkin camouflage products recommended for you during a Skin Camouflage Service appointment are usually available on prescription. At the end of your appointment, you’ll receive a “prescription request form”, which you should discuss with your GP.
Whether or not your GP can routinely prescribe products may be determined by the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) in your area if you live in England, or your local NHS Health Board if you live in Scotland. It can be helpful to speak to your GP to explain how skin camouflage products support your mental health and wellbeing.
In some cases, a GP may complete an Individual Funding Request (IFR) for the products, even if they are not routinely prescribed where you live.
