On this page, you can find out more about our accredited Skin Camouflage Service and make a referral to Changing Faces.
What is skin camouflage?
Skin camouflage is where specialist creams and powders are applied over scars, marks or non-infectious skin conditions, to reduce their appearance.
The products are long-lasting, waterproof and suitable for the face or body. Skin camouflage is suitable for women, men and children over the age of five and we have an array of shades and colours, ensuring it is suitable for all skin tones.
Living with a visible difference can be very distressing, but skin camouflage can give your patient a choice over their appearance and help to build their confidence and self-esteem.
Note that skin camouflage can’t be applied to infected, inflamed or broken skin. It also cannot level out raised scars, fill in indented scars or alter the skin’s texture.
About our service
Our Skin Camouflage Service is delivered by practitioners who have completed a Royal College of Nursing accreditation.
In a face-to-face appointment, the practitioner will listen to the patients’ needs, carry out a colour match, and explain how to apply and set the products. The session is interactive and we encourage patients to try application techniques. At the end of the appointment, they will be given a prescription for the skin camouflage products recommended for them.
We also offer online or phone appointments. While it isn’t possible to perform a colour match during virtual appointments, your patient can discuss their needs and concerns and find out more about how skin camouflage can help. After the session, the practitioner will email the patient a summary of what was discussed plus additional advice and support.
You can refer online or send us a paper referral. Once we receive it, we will ask your patient to complete a more detailed form and then arrange an appointment.
If you have any questions about the service or want to discuss your referral in more detail, please get in touch with the skin camouflage team by emailing [email protected] or calling 0207 3919262.
