Adam Pearson is turning up the heat on Celebrity MasterChef

Adam Pearson is an award-winning campaigner, actor and presenter, but is he an award-winning cook?

Our ambassador, Adam Pearson, is one of the stars competing for the title of Celebrity MasterChef 2022.

Adam has been involved with Changing Faces since he was a child. Born with the genetic condition neurofibromatosis, which causes non-cancerous tumours to grow on nerve tissues, Adam is now an incredible ambassador – as well actor and presenter – who has spoken out about issues such as appearance-related hate crime and bullying.

Adam has been a guiding light who has touched generations of people with visible differences.

Emma, campaigner

Adam will be appearing alongside Strictly Come Dancing professional, Katya Jones, drag artist, Kitty Scott-Claus, presenter, Lisa Snowdon, and actor, Ryan Thomas.

Our campaigner, Emma, speaks about why she’s looking forward to watching Adam on Celebrity MasterChef:

“I first saw Adam Pearson in a documentary about Joseph Carey Merrick. That documentary was something I still think about today and it made me want to learn more about the visible difference community more widely.

“Since then, Adam has been a guiding light who has touched generations of people with visible differences. To push against the tide of humanity and remain steadfast in calling for better treatment for your community is a great thing.

“I wish Adam lots of good luck on Celebrity MasterChef, and I hope he doesn’t overcook the pasta.”

Seeing positive representation of visible difference on prime-time television is essential. We believe that the more diversity is shown on screen, the more accepted difference will become, improving the lives of everyone with a scar, mark or condition on their face or body.

Adam is a role model that everyone can aspire to. No matter what he does, he always brings his authentic self, and it’s amazing to see.

Olu, campaigner

Campaigner Atholl shares why media representation is so important:

“When I was younger, Adam was the first person with a visible difference I saw on TV. He was presenting a documentary and it was the first time in my life I felt like I could do something regarding TV and media, because I’d seen him do it so well. I’m so happy to see that he’s still breaking down barriers for people with visible differences! Wishing him the best of luck!”

Having someone in the public eye who you can relate to is vital for building confidence. Adam is a role model for multiple generations of people with a visible difference, and his appearance on Celebrity MasterChef is sure to inspire many more to fulfil their dreams.

Our campaigner Olu, talks about why he admires Adam:

“To me, Adam is a role model that everyone can aspire to. No matter what he does, he always brings his authentic self, and it’s amazing to see.

“There weren’t many people with a visible difference to look up to when I was growing up, but Adam took on that role for me. He shows people in the visible difference community that you can do anything – including being in a film with Scarlett Johansson!

“Getting more and more people with visible differences on TV will help to normalise it. Every appearance that Adam – and others – makes changes people’s mindsets towards visible difference. I like to think that society will become more accepting as a result.”
