Face Equality Week 2026 (11th – 15th May) is our opportunity to transform conversations about visible differences. At Changing Faces, we use this annual campaign to tackle stigma and discrimination head-on, while celebrating the strength, resilience, and diversity of people living with a visible difference. We are committed to empowering individuals to embrace who they are and thrive in a more accepting, inclusive society.
Face Equality Week isn’t just for people with a visible difference, it is for all of us. Whether you have a visible difference, know someone who does, or simply want to build a kinder, more inclusive world, this campaign is about changing hearts and minds across society. When you Think Before You Speak, you are not just being polite, you are showing respect, dignity, and acceptance. You are helping someone feel safe, valued, and confident in their own skin.
Think Before You Speak: No one owes you an explanation for their appearance.
Why Think Before You Speak Matters
For many people with a visible difference, inappropriate comments and questions are an everyday reality. Imagine simply trying to do the weekly shop and being asked "What happened to you?" by strangers. A seemingly harmless comment or question can stick with a person for days, weeks, months or even years.
Our recent survey found that 94% of respondents living with visible difference said they lack confidence and self-esteem. People's confidence can be directly impacted by the reactions of others.
No one should feel worried about stepping outside of their home because of the comments they might hear.
Face Equality Week only grows stronger with your voice behind it. Every post shared, every conversation started, and every act of solidarity sends a message that appearance-based discrimination has no place in our society. Here’s how you can get involved and make a real difference this Face Equality Week.
Join us on Wednesday 13th May at 6.30pm for an honest, supportive conversation. You will hear directly from people with visible differences, gain practical coping strategies, and have the chance to ask your questions live. You will not be onscreen. You will also be able to chat with other attendees who understand what you are going through.
The ERD tool is a simple three step strategy to help you feel confident and in control when dealing with staring, questions, or comments about your visible difference.
