Kate began her career with Stephenson Harwood as a solicitor specialising in trust administration. Since leaving private practice, she has focused on voluntary roles, being a highly experienced board member of various charitable trusts and as Deputy Chair of Governors at both junior and senior schools. Kate’s involvement with Changing Faces began after her husband sustained partial facial paralysis following an acute episode of Bell’s Palsy. She also serves as a magistrate in the Family Court. She is currently Honorary Secretary and Deputy Chair of Changing Faces.
She said. “As a family, we know from personal experience the impact of having a visible difference. Changing Faces is a remarkable charity. Through its skin camouflage and wellbeing services, as well as its ground-breaking campaigns, Changing Faces brings hope, optimism and a strong community of support to everyone living with a visible difference. I’m delighted to lead such a remarkable organisation through its next stage of development.”
Louise Wright, Chief Executive of Changing Faces, said. “We are all enormously grateful to Susan for her leadership of Changing Faces and the contribution she has made over many years to the visible difference community. She has been a huge support to me personally, to the Board and to the entire Changing Faces team. We are all thrilled that Kate is able to join us as our new Chair at this important time in our development. Her passion for the visible difference community and widespread experience will be vital as we continue our urgent work on behalf of everyone with a visible difference in the UK.”
Susan Harrison said. “It has been a privilege to support the work of Changing Faces since its establishment, including more recently as a Trustee and latterly as Interim Chair. Changing Faces has done so much to tell the story of the visible difference community, support people through its services and campaign for a more tolerant world for all. I know that Kate’s knowledge and experience strategic knowledge and leadership acumen will play a pivotal role in that journey.”
