Support for Children in Yorkshire and the Humber

What is it?

Funded by BBC Children in Need, the Changing Faces Yorkshire and the Humber Service helps support children and young people up to the age of 18, and their families, who are affected by a visible difference. Your child may have been born with a birthmark, cleft lip and palate or other condition. Perhaps you are a young person with a mark or scar, a dog bite or cancer, or have developed a condition like facial palsy, vitiligo, or acne.

Our highly qualified Practitioner can provide 1-1 confidential support, advice and information, either in person, by telephone, Skype, or email.

How can we help?

Our practitioner can help with a whole range of concerns and issues including:

  • coping with feelings better, talk things through and explore options
  • building self-esteem, confidence and more positive feelings
  • coping with other people’s reactions by discussing techniques to handle everyday situations like staring, questions and comments
  • achieve aims in everyday life, such as feeling comfortable socialising, starting work, attending school or developing relationships
  • find out more a condition and treatment options

A self-guided, online tool for young people aged 12 to 17 years with a visible difference. There are eight user-friendly sessions designed to help you to learn new skills and useful tips.
