Anti Bullying Week 13-17 November 2017

Anti Bullying Week 13-17 November 2017

In England Anti- Bullying Week (ABW) is co-ordinated by the Anti-Bullying Alliance and this year’s theme is All different, All equal.

Bullying behaviours can have a massive impact on the mental health and educational progress of anyone being targeted and indeed bystanders. Stopping bullying, or better still preventing it from happening, can help reduce these negative impacts.

Anti-Bullying week gives children and young people, and their teachers and parents, the chance to refresh their ideas for preventing or stopping bullying behaviours.

Through our research Disfigurement in the UK we are aware that appearance related bullying does happen in schools across the UK. Our research highlighted that 45% of young people with a disfigurement at school had been bullied at school. On top of this the national bullying survey highlights that appearance is the number one target for young people being bullied.

Our new Anti-Bullying Week assembly and lesson resources aim to:

  • develop children’s and young people’s appreciation of all our differences alongside our shared humanity that makes us all equal.
  • equip everyone with the focus and skills to turn hopes and intentions into actions that will increase everyone’s sense of belonging regardless of appearance and difference.

Becoming more comfortable and confident with all our differences helps us all see each other more fairly and equally.
