Are you worried about other people’s reactions to your appearance? Do you think you’re never going to find a partner or get that dream job you’ve been hankering after? Are you struggling to accept the change to your appearance after surgery or an accident? Perhaps you’ve been offered more treatment options and you’re not sure what to do?
Whether you were born with a rare condition that affects your appearance, or you acquired a disfigurement more recently, our specialist team can offer you space to talk through your concerns.
We can also offer counselling if you wish to explore your experiences and concerns in more depth. Our counselling information sheet provides more information about this service.
You may also have questions about your medical condition and be wondering how you can access more medical information? We can advise you how to find out more and signpost you to other services.
You can contact us by email, telephone, or letter. We accept calls between 10am – 4pm Monday – Friday, and messages can be left if we’re not available.
If you are interested in meeting other people with experience of living with a disfigurement, you may like to attend one of our group events or workshops .
During these events and workshops you can share your experiences with others and to learn from one another how to manage common challenges. All of our events are facilitated by at least two Adult Specialists who draw upon professional knowledge and experience of working with people who have disfigurements.
Changing Faces has written and published a number of self-help booklets and guides that cover a range of experiences that are relevant to many people with disfigurements.
These include, “Handling Other People’s Reactions” which offers practical advice and information about managing the attention of other people. We also have some guides that are more specific to certain medical conditions, such as cancer, facial palsy, eye conditions and skin conditions.
We have details and contact with numerous condition-specific support groups all over the UK in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
If you want to know more about your particular condition, or wish to meet others with your condition in particular we can tell you if there is a group or network that enables you to do this.
If you are already attending a support group and you would like to let other members know about our work, please get in touch.
