Guidance for
employers

People with disfigurements are not always treated in the same way as people without disfigurements. Although disfigurement is covered under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, employers may not be aware that their staff may be experiencing facial prejudice and the resulting discrimination.

Changing Faces works with employers to help them ensure that all employees and customers with facial and other disfigurements are treated fairly.

It is essential that employers in all sectors create a culture of face equality for employees and customers with disfigurements, removing facial prejudice and discrimination on three levels:

  • Personal
  • Professional capacity – procedures
  • Organisational – ethos and policies

We provide guidance, training and consultancy on:

1.AWARENESS: How an organisation can become aware of facial prejudice and facial discrimination – companies can do the Implicit Attitudes Test, display the new posters, arrange a Changing Faces talk etc.

2.COMMITMENT: What you need to do STAND OUT, support and promote face equality as an employer.

3.EMBEDDING: How to embed Face Equality into your policies, training and ethos.

We can also provide personal support for your employees who have or who acquire a disfigurement.
