Workshops and
group events

Changing Faces runs a range of group workshops and events throughout the year for adults.

As well as meeting other people who have shared similar experiences, you can also learn new skills and hopefully feel more confident in managing some of the challenges of living with a disfigurement.

Here are the three main events that we can offer:

Reach Out with Assertiveness

The aim of this one-day workshop is to enable a small group of adults with different experiences of disfigurement to meet, share and learn from and with one another. Participants will look at how assertiveness and effective communication skills can help in managing other people's reactions to your disfigurement and also improve everyday social encounters.

Date: January 2011
Location: London

Intimacy Workshop

This one-day workshop provides an opportunity for a small group of adults (usually 4-8 people) to come together and share their thoughts and concerns about developing and/or maintaining an intimate relationship. We will look at issues such as talking about your difference with a potential new partner and personal beliefs around attractiveness as well as exploring the importance of communication in enhancing and maintaining new relationships.

Date: March 2011
Location: TBC

Beauty: Inside & Out

Does a trip to the hairdresser make your hair stand on end? Does the idea of a massage sound wonderful but make you feel tense? Do you love make up but avoid make up counters? Do you find your appearance doesn't express who you are?

The Beauty Inside & Out day is for women who want to talk about how it feels to live in a society that values appearance so highly. In the group, you can explore and challenge the myths and misconceptions that surround the experience of living with a disfigurement. We will also look at how everyone can choose how they wish to present themselves externally. Professionals in hairdressing, make-up and styling will be available to offer advice.

Date: November 2010
Location: Scotland
