Become a skin
camouflage volunteer

The skin camouflage programme was set up in 1975 by the Red Cross and since then it has helped tens of thousands of people with a visible difference grow in confidence. Today, many people see it as an essential part of their toolkit for feeling good about their appearance.

This service is delivered by volunteers across the UK who are trained to show people how to use the creams and powders to provide effective long-lasting cover. Camouflage creams can significantly reduce the appearance of marks, scars and skin discoloration whilst provide effective, long-lasting, waterproof cover. They can be used to cover a wide number of conditions, including:

  • scarring

  • tattoos

  • rosacea

  • birthmarks

  • vitiligo

  • stretch marks

  • skin discoloration

  • other dermatological conditions.

How do I become a Changing Faces Skin Camouflage Volunteer?

To deliver this service you will receive 30 hours training which is accredited by the Royal College of Nursing. In addition to having an excellent eye for colour you need to have good interpersonal skills. We provide you with all the equipment you need and annual workshops to help you to keep your skills up to date.

Please be aware, this volunteering opportunity is heavily oversubscribed and there is a significant waiting list for training. We can only train volunteers where there is a clinic in their area and where there is a need for more volunteers so unfortunately we cannot take on everyone who contacts us.

Please look at the role profile that we have created to give you more information about what you can expect from volunteering with us.

If you are still interested please fill in this application form and email it to alisonh@changingfaces.org.uk to help us to identify whether there is a clinic in your area that fits with your availability.

If you are a health professional who wishes to set up a clinic in the hospital or GP practice where you are based, please let us know where you are based so we can support you to set up a new clinic.

If you want more information, please call Alison Harrower, Volunteer Development Manager, on 07788 312669 or email alisonh@changingfaces.org.uk. We receive lots of enquiries about volunteering so it could take up to two weeks to receive a response.
