Become a media
volunteer

Join our team of media volunteers and help more people find support and feel confident and at ease about disfigurement.

How did you first hear about Changing Faces? Chances are you read someone's story in a magazine or newspaper, saw a family on TV or spotted one of our campaign posters.

Thousands of men and women, young people and families have got in touch with Changing Faces for advice and help on living successfully with a disfigurement in this way.

To do this we rely on our team of media volunteers who can talk to selected journalists about their own or their child's experience of living with an unusual appearance and the things that have made a positive difference.

Anyone who has a disfigurement, including parents of children who have a condition which affects their appearance can apply to join our media volunteer scheme. Volunteers receive ongoing support from the Campaigns and Communications team when they take part in an interview and are offered preparation sessions and advice on presenting their views.

Victoria has been a Changing Faces media volunteer for seven years. She said, "It's important that more and more people with disfigurements become visible in the media and 'tell it like it is'. Becoming a media volunteer gives you the chance to raise awareness and show other people that you can lead a happy and fulfilled life. It can be a rewarding and fun experience and a great way to boost your confidence. After I took part in the BBC's 'The Human Face' programme in 2000, I had a letter from a parent whose young daughter had a disfigurement. She said, 'I'd love to see you have your own programme. You portray such a positive view of disfigurement.'"
