Research

Changing Faces' work is underpinned by academic research and evaluation which aims to understand the psychological and social problems faced by people with disfigurements in order to develop appropriate ways of meeting them.

Centre for Appearance Research

In 1998 Changing Faces partnered the University of the West of England in setting up the world's first and only Centre for Appearance Research (CAR) to enhance understanding of the psychosocial, educational and cultural aspects of disfigurement and appearance related concerns. The findings have led to significant improvements in clinical practice and have enabled Changing Faces and CAR to make credible contributions to NHS policy reviews on service developments.

For further information on current research projects and publications visit CAR's website at http://science.uwe.ac.uk/car/

Changing Faces Research Fund

The Changing Faces Research Fund was established in 2004 to commission and promote research into the 'big questions' around disfigurement throughout the UK and internationally.

The Research Fund is presently in need of further funds to invest in new research. It is not accepting applications for research at this time.
